A new senior living home with a focus on kosher living and environmental awareness has opened in central Phoenix near one of the city’s larger Jewish communities.
Located near 7th Street and Glendale Avenue, the nonprofit Shalom Home accommodates five seniors in a warm, home-like atmosphere.
“We emphasize sustainability and holistic living and have a garden and a hen house on premises,” said Jesse Charyn, who founded Shalom Home with his wife, Shira.
Jesse works as a chaplain and will be an ordained rabbi in June. Shira has a master’s degree in public health with a focus on gerontology. Both are certified caregivers and live next door to the Shalom Home.
All food served in the senior care home is organic, local and certified kosher. Shabbat and Jewish holidays are celebrated, and family members are welcome to attend. The home is bleach-free and, wherever possible, uses dye-free and perfume-free cleaners for those with chemical sensitivities.
Weekly activities include exercise; outdoor gardening; pet and music therapy, and more. For more information, visit https://shalomhomeaz.org or call 480-619-3344.
